Hollywood Undead is a poster-band for evolution. As most people know, they began as the masked princes of MySpace, gracing us with melodic post-hardcore tracks such as My Black Dahlia and No. 5, both of which made it onto their 2008 debut album, ‘Swan Songs’. Since then, they have switched up a few members, released five more albums, ditched their iconic masks, and introduced an edgy electronic sound to their already genre-blending mix. And they haven’t stopped there.
The guys from HU have teamed up with rapper Tech N9ne, whose speed of flow is not only impressive but also a popular topic of discussion. In their newest single, “Idol,” the message is one of realness. It speaks of the fact that people have their demons and shouldn’t be idolized – no one is perfect. Someone can look like an angel on the outside but can be a cold-blooded killer in reality. The message is actually very obvious, especially with Johnny 3 Tears repeating, “I ain’t your idol, kid” multiple times.
“Idol” is the first single released from their upcoming album “New Empire: Vol. 2”, set to be released later this year.
