OFF FORTHCOMING ALBUM TRUTH POWER
“Hidden with glorious metaphors that will pick at your brain,
the easy to follow lyrics are made bold with the colourful instrumentation” – Born Music Online(On “U Babe”)
NEEDSHES offer a signature alternative rock foundation with elements of blues, funk, soul, punk and R&B. From Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the band is gearing up for the release of their forthcoming album, Truth Power, due out May 3rd via AWAL. The 10-track album intertwines the power of truth and how truth is power combed with hidden metaphors and life stories. One of those stories shines through in their newest single, “Pain,” which is based on an atmospheric horror tale that bundles thoughts of dissatisfaction and despair. Within the track, the main character is protesting against everything surrounding him. To maximize this notion, the band fused a Martin Luther King Jr. speech to provide a fresh take on its impact in today’s world. In addition, they were influenced by Jack White’s antics and leaned on his styling to round out “Pain.” Fans can stream the brand new single, “Pain,” now!
Earlier this month, the band unleashed their single,“U Babe,” which is also off the brand new album, Truth Power, The single perfectly encapsulates the band’s signature alt/rock sound while infusing R&B, soul, funk and hip-hop. Lead vocalist Otabek Salamov (Beck) expands on the importance of the song and how meaningful it is to his childhood. He states, “It is kind of the tribute to James Brown, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Prodigy, Sepultura, and Beastie Boys. I just wanted to make something you can touch and feel nostalgia.” He continues by touching on the album theme by stating, “Truth Power is a call for awareness about the obvious truths, which are often ignored.” And in regard to “U Babe” the song addresses the truth as the character is eager for knowledge.” The album intertwines this idea with hidden metaphors, life stories, and easy-to-follow imagery underling the collection and offers an array of exotic sounds with the addition of instruments such as doira and persian tar.
Over the years, Beck and fellow bandmates, Ivan Petukhov and Alex Manakhov, have garnered tremendous recognition for their singles “Time to See” and “Anything You Want.” Featured on BBC Radio 6 Music with Tom Robinson, “Time to See” was the featured track in Renault Duster Car Commercial and is featured in the film, Break. Following, the band unleashed “Anything You Want” which was featured in the Renault Kaptur car commercial, the 2019 Lay’s commercial, and is added to the in-store music playlist for Verizon.
NEEDSHES, an independent alternative rock band from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is a balancing act between the moody atmosphere of The NBHD, with dainty anthems reminiscent of The Killers, a bit of the oddball nature of Jack White and the heartbreaking ballad skillset of Coldplay. With a musically diverse experience in mind, Otabek Salamov (Beck) conceptualized the ideology of NEEDSHES in 2011. Stemming from his childhood, he encapsulates his art for composing bluesy story-telling songs with love ballads infused with swagger punk rock and suffocating alt-rock/hip-hop tints. Finalizing the sound Beck was looking for, in 2016 after several line-up changes, he enlisted in Ivan Petukhov (guitar) and Alex Manakhov (drums) to round out the sound. Together they offer a signature alternative rock foundation with elements of blues, funk, soul, punk and R&B. They stand out with their smooth and powerful vocal arrangements, catchy melodies, often cinematic vibes and uncommonly diverse genre approach.
From childhood, Beck devoted his time and energy in to music. Coming from a musical family, it was no doubt that he would become attracted to playing and performing. At the age of four, he began playing the piano and by ten he was composing melodies for piano. He attended a music academy where he would begin entering and winning national competitions and was awarded the first price for his precision on clarinet at the age of fourteen. As a teen, his musical interests varied and he was drawn to compose, record, and perform metalcore styled music. After several tries within the genre, he decided to dilute the metal sound with several melodic undertones in his music. In the process of creating this transition, he realized that the switch was something that gravitated to his liking. In 2011, he decided to create a melodic indie rock project, plus alluding to the formation of NEEDSHES. At that time, Beck was working as an assistant audio engineer in local studios, so it was no surprise that he quickly adapted to recording and producing his own music. He took the years to perfect his production skills and songwriting while performing as much as he could.
Fast forward to the pinnacle of NEEDSHES, in 2013, when Beck moved to Moscow to form the missing pieces of the band. He gathered a full traditional rock formation around his project with the intent to create true authentic music. His biggest influences stemmed from The Killers, David Bowie, James Brown, Queen, Jack White, Coldplay, U2, a-ha, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nirvana, to name a few. He continued his practice as a studio engineer, which later inspired him to create his own home studio to flush out the music he was so passionate about. In 2014, NEEDSHES unleashed a 13-track debut titled, Feel Alright, featuring lead single, “Why.” Off the debut album, the track “I Believe” was featured on the soundtrack of Quackerz in 2016, which garnered worldwide film distribution. And “Hey Girl, Something” was in the soundtrack to domestic TV series, Univer in 2017-2018. The album fueled Beck to unleash two additional singles in 2015 coined, “Fallin’ and “Run Mf.”
However, in 2016, Beck found two additional members to round out the sound he was looking for. He added Ivan Petukhov on guitar and Alex Manakhov on drums. Together they began actively playing shows, while fascinating local concert venues, festivals, city events, and international showcases, proving that this line-up would be the most impactful for the history of NEEDSHES. Everything turned around this year, especially with the release of Mixed Feelings, a 7-track LP featuring “Time to See.” The album peaked at #7 on the iTunes Alt/Rock ‘Bestsellers’ chart and “Time to See” remained at the top of the list for a consecutive six month period.
Becoming a pivotal track in the band’s history, “Time to See” has been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music with Tom Robinson, garnered significant radio play on MAXIMUM and top Russian pop-rock stations, and was featured in the Renault Duster car commercial from 2017-2018. Among that, the single was the winner of the Unsigned Only contest in 2017 in two nominations: the Rock genre and ‘Hit A Home Run With Your Music’ voted on by The Killers, The Kooks, The Struts, Phantogram, Rolling Stone Magazine, and Berklee College of Music, as well as becoming a finalist of the John Lennon Songwriting contest in 2017, semi-finalist of the U.K. Songwriting Contest in 2018, and honorable mentions at the International Songwriting Competition in 2017, and USA Songwriting Competition in 2018. In 2019, “Time to See” has been featured in the movie, Break, which is distributed in Russia, Germany, China, Japan, France, Korea, Hungary, and Vietnam.
Following their tremendous sprint with “Time to See,” the band unleashed a brand new single in March of 2018 titled, “Anything You Want.” The song charted the Apple Music hot tracks for an entire month post release, was featured in the Renault Kaptur car commercial in 2018, Lay’s commercial which aired in 2019 and is slated to be added to the in-store music playlist for Verizon.
In 2019, NEEDSHES will return with a brand new album titled, Truth Power, featuring singles “U Babe,” “Pain,” and “Sometimes I Can Fly.” Beck expands on the meaning behind the record by stating, “Truth Power is a call for awareness about the obvious truths, which are often ignored.” He continues, “History shows us that we are people, something more than just a species living on the planet. It’s our home and we should passionately care about it. We are all one big family without regard to race, national origin or religion.” The album is an ode to our ancestors who as Beck exclaims, “were bringing light under fear of death.” The album intertwines this idea with hidden metaphors, life stories, and easy-to-follow imagery underling the collection of the 10 tracks off Truth Power. Beck finishes, “Is Truth the Power? Or is Power True? The answer is so obvious but, as it happened, became almost utopian ideal.” The album features some new exotic sounds for NEEDSHES to incorporate national instruments to music such as doira and persian tar. Truth Power is available on May 3, 2019.
